About

Stephen Bradley is an Irish-American film composer, orchestrator, producer and pianist based in London, United Kingdom.

His music has been described as impressionistic — an Irish lyricism shaped by a classical sensibility, moving between the emotionally jagged and achingly delicate, the intimate and the vast.  With an emphasis on story, Stephen's work often explores strong themes and visceral emotions.  He is drawn to the ethereal and atmospheric, and values specificity and nuance in music's search for the soul of a story.

Central to this is his commitment to the recording process itself. Stephen has a deep passion for the analog as well as studio recording sessions, working with professional musicians to bring his scores to life, blending live performance with hybrid production approaches.  In an increasingly digital and AI-centred age, he believes that human musicianship matters more than ever.

Originally from Queens, New York, Stephen was drawn to the arts from an early age, finding his first love in movies and drawing. At eight, he and his family moved from the US to Strabane, County Tyrone in Northern Ireland, where he lived until he was nineteen.  It was here that he found music, a calling like no other, in the quiet corners of his home.

Connected to a musical family, he took up piano and went on to earn a scholarship from leading concert pianist Richard Meyrick to study piano at bi-annual residential courses at Tonbridge School, Kent, where he was taught primarily by concert pianist Veronika Illinskaya.

Stephen earned a Bachelor of Music at City, St George's, University of London, studying with concert pianists Ian Pace and Richard Uttley as well as composers Edmund Jolliffe, Tullis Rennie and Claudia Molitor, collaborators including the Riot Ensemble and Explore Ensemble.  It was here that his love of music converged with his love of film and storytelling, setting the course for a future composing for media.

Stephen went on to complete a Master's degree in Composition for Screen at the Royal College of Music, London, mentored by composers Mike Ladouceur and Filip Sijanec.  During his studies he hosted and interviewed industry professionals, collaborated with the Abbey Road Institute, the Jasmine Quartet and with emerging filmmakers from the London Film School, London South Bank University, the Royal College of Art, and beyond.  He graduated in 2026 with the Joseph Horovitz Prize for Composition.

Stephen is now composing for film and media, based in London.
